Writing in the 1632verse

Tell your story in Eric Flint’s World!

Like flowers that bloom in unexpected places, every story unfolds with beauty and resilience, revealing hidden wonders.

Or not. Maybe your story is gritty. Maybe it’s painful. Maybe it’s just plain weird. Eric clearly loved seeing all the different ways each new author developed a little bit more of his world. Those of us keeping it alive love that too! So please, join us!

There are three main avenues for writing. One is the mainline novels for Baen, which are invitation-only. The other two are short stories and writing for GURPS Ring of Fire, and we love new writers!

Stories in all three avenues are canon and use the same canon editor. Yes, he is very busy. No, we don’t understand how he keeps it all in his brain.

Getting Started:

GURPS

GURPS Ring of Fire covers historical content, including slavery. We provide guidance to help players approach this and other campaigns with mutual respect and open communication.

The Steve Jackson Games website has updates on the status of this and other projects. For anyone interested in writing a GURPS module in this universe, they also have guidelines on what they are looking for on their wishlist page.

1632 Authors

We fully understand how overwhelming it can be to jump into a world with so much already written, so we created an entire website to help at Authors.1632Magazine.com.

There are also three forums at BaensBar.net devoted to 1632. 1632 Slush is full of stories writers have submitted for consideration. 1632 Slush Comments is where people comment on stories so the Slush will always the most recent submissions at the top. And 1632 Tech is for discussions of all sorts, not just about technology.

1632 & Beyond

New issues full of short stories are released every other month. We love new authors soooo much! Whether it’s new to our universe (but published elsewhere already) or entirely new to writing, we are alway excited to have new voices in our world.

1632 Magazine is the place to buy single copies of both the older Grantville Gazette and the newer 1632 & Beyond, or to get an ongoing subscription.

GURPS Ring of Fire from Steve Jackson Games is a licensed product that is canon and has been canon reviewed just like every novel and short story.

It’s the real deal, and we want you to join us!

Eric Flint’s 1632 & Beyond is a bimonthly magazine full of short stories set in 1632. It sometimes also has nonfiction and short stories set in the other Assiti Shards universes. (If you don’t know what an Assiti Shard is, that’s okay – you don’t need to.)

It is the successor to the Grantville Gazette, which closed after 102 volumes when Eric died in 2022. Both the Grantville Gazette and 1632 & Beyond are available for purchase at 1632Magazine.com.
